Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
